Title: Artemis’s Embrace: A Birthday Blessing
This artwork, a heartfelt birthday gift/card, is designed for someone cherished by their four family members. It features a 2D layered paper art composition, incorporating elements such as deer, lavender, flowers, a cake, and moonlight. The moonlight symbolizes Artemis, the goddess of wilderness and childbirth, marking the significance of stepping into another year.
My inspiration stems from Artemis, who embodies themes of growth, renewal, and familial bonds. The round cake represents the moon's shape, connecting to the goddess’s influence. Each element in this piece carries meaning: the plants symbolize growth and human connection, while the deer reflect the bonds between friends and family. As the most iconic animal linked to Artemis, deer further emphasize themes of renewal, celebration, and family gatherings.
Using layered paper art allows for a dynamic interplay of light and shadow, enhancing audience interaction. This physical connection invites viewers to engage with the artwork, reinforcing feelings of belonging and connection. The thoughtful layering creates depth, encouraging contemplation and emotional resonance.
The color palette predominantly features soft purples and pinks, evoking themes of love, identity, and celebration—all significant to the birthday occasion. My hope is that this artwork not only serves as a beautiful gift but also conveys a deep sense of love and belonging, allowing the recipient to feel cherished by their family on this special day.
